 For Your Info - IPC200 Test Bench
For Your Info - Testing EUI Injectors
Several months ago we ordered what would be the very first Rabotti IPC200 EUI (Electronic Unit Injector) test bench delivered to North America!  It was recently delivered and installed, and we feel that this test bench has taken EUI testing to a new level.  There are several different systems available for testing EUI's, but none have offered the capabilities of the IPC200.

Our main intent behind purchasing this test bench was to improve the time taken to diagnose and calibrate EUI's.  The IPC200 has done that, but it has also enabled us to improve the consistency and the quality of our remanufactured EUI's, and ultimately this provides a better product for our customers.

The IPC200 is computer controlled, and provides us with test results for all functions of an EUI.  These include:
  • Fuel Delivery:  We can read fuel delivery both in cc's per 1000 strokes, or in what is becoming an EUI standard, cc's per minute.  However, contrary to other test equipment results, fuel delivery is not the only thing we are concerned about ...
     
  • Injector Response Time:  Injector response time is critical for an EUI.  This is the time it takes for the injector to respond to the signal that is sent from the host ECM (Engine Control Module).  Many EUI problems are related to either too short or too long injector response times.  Not only can we measure this time, but we can also see time vs. pressure and/or time vs. current for the entire injection cycle.  However, an injector with the proper response time, as well as the proper fuel delivery, may still not be the best injector ...
     
  • Peak Injection Pressure:  Peak Injection Pressure (PIP) is the maximum injection pressure reached during the injection cycle, and this value can approach 2000 Bar (29,000 PSI) in some types of EUI's.  The proper PIP is very important, and can only be obtained if all of the EUI's components are working  properly.  PIP will determine in part how well the fuel is atomized.  PIP can be too low, or even too high, and either way the injector is not functioning as it should.  Even when all other test results are ok, invalid PIP values will certainly have an effect on performance and/or fuel economy.
